Menstruating Women, Can Read Alquran?

Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings. Can women who are menstruating read Alquran? If reading Alquran can it be via cellphone or not?

Answer: May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be with you too. May Allah SWT always pour out His blessings on you and your family.

The scholars agree that people who are menstruating should not touch the mushhaf (Al-Qur'an) directly. So, the prohibition of directly holding mushhaf is the agreement of the scholars.

As for the law of reading the Koran for women who menstruate, scholars have different opinions.

Most of the scholars argue that women who menstruate should not read the Qur'an. This is based on the hadith narrated by Ali ra that "There is nothing to prevent the Messenger of Allah from reading the Koran other than junub." (HR Tirmidhi)
They also mengqiyas (qiyas hall) menstruating women with junub people. If Junub alone is not allowed to read the Koran, a woman who is menstruating should not read the Koran.

They also argue with the hadith narrated by Ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah said, "People who are junub and menstruating should not read the Koran." (Narrated by Ibn Majah). It's just that, many hadith scholars who punish that this hadith is weak.

While some other scholars are of the opinion that women who menstruate may read the Koran. They argue that mengqiykan menstruation with junub is not right. There are differences between the two. Meanwhile, the hadith that prohibits menstruating women from reading the Qur'an is a weak hadith. That way, if there are no strong provisions, the law will return to the original law.

The scholars who think that menstruating women can read Al-Qu'an are Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn Qayyim and others.
Allah knows best. (Ust. A. Rochim, Lc, http://zakat.or.id). *
