Landslide Disasters in Ciamis and Cilacap, Extreme Weather Threatens 24 Regions of Indonesia

DDHK.ORG - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that there were 2 cases of landslides in Ciamis, West Java, and Cilacap, Central Java. Through a press release conducted on Sunday, September 11, 2022, BNPB also asked residents in 24 regions to be aware of extreme weather in the next week.

In Ciamis, said BNPB, there were 2 residents who died due to heaps of landslides. Both were found dead after being buried by a landslide that occurred in Sukamaju Village, Cihaurbeuti District, Ciamis Regency, West Java, Sunday (11/9/2022).

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Ciamis Regency reported that the incident occurred when it rained with high intensity at 20.00 WIB plus unstable soil conditions at the scene. A total of 28 families/88 people in Sukahurip Village and Sukamaju Village, Cihaurbeuti District were affected by the disaster. Some residents of Sukamaju Village were forced to take refuge in a mosque not far from the settlement.

The landslide in Cilacap occurred on Sunday (11/9/2022) at 15.30 WIB. The BPBD of Cilacap Regency noted that the affected area was Tambaksari Village which borders Palugon Village, Wanareja District.

The results of the assessment in the field showed that the plaster with a height of 3,5 meters and a length of 8 meters collapsed and hit a non-permanent house belonging to a resident of Tambaksari Village. In addition, a cliff with a height of 6 meters, a length of 5 meters and a width of 2 meters experienced a landslide and hit a resident's house. One house belonging to another resident is also in danger of being carried away by landslides because the distance from the house to the landslide fault is only 1 meter.

The Cilacap Regency BPBD also reported that the cliffs belonging to Perhutani had avalanches with a height of 8-15 meters closing the district crossing at 4 points with a length of 10-20 meters. With the material avalanche, the road cannot be passed by four-wheeled or two-wheeled vehicles. Besides consisting of soil and mud, the landslide material is also in the form of pine tree trunks that have been cut down.

Meanwhile, extreme weather marked by an increase in rainfall, the phenomenon of moderate to heavy rain and can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds is expected to still hit 24 regions in Indonesia, starting from Saturday (10/9/2022) to Friday (16/9/2022). . Based on information from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the 24 regions include Riau Islands, Jambi, Bengkulu, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Lampung, Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta and East Java. .
