Can I Use Non-Halal Toothpaste in Hong Kong?

Assalamualaikum. Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

If you buy toothpaste, does it have to have a halal label too? This is my tooth hurts, then a friend advised me to buy Sensodyne toothpaste. I looked for the halal label, it wasn't there. So I haven't used it yet, I want to ask Ustadz first.

Thank you, Ustadz.

Regards, Fulan/Fulanah

ANSWER:

Wassalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarokaatuh.

Bismillah… As far as I know, for the toothpaste product in question, in Indonesia it has been certified halal from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). I don't know if it's in Hong Kong, because of course in each country, the basic ingredients for making it can be different, especially in the calcium content and flavor. It is better to use the one with the halal label.

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Regards!
