How Much is My Salary Zakat Dollars?
Assalamualaikum. Ustadz, I want to ask a question.
This is my first time working in Hong Kong. I intend to pay zakat on the salary I have worked for for 2 years and there is still a 6 month salary deduction. More or less, how many zakat dollars should I spend?

ANSWER:
Wassalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarokaatuh.
Jazaakallah for the question. Wealth income from every business or salary that we receive, there is a right to be issued and distributed to the mustahik zakat.
Not all assets that we have must be zakat. There are terms or conditions. Among them is having reached the nishab or minimum limit. The scholars agree that the wealth we receive or save reaches 85 grams of gold, so it is obligatory to pay zakat of 2,5 percent.
If 1 gram is exchanged for Rp800 thousand, or the equivalent of HK$400, then 85 grams of gold is worth Rp68 million or HK$34,000/year. Or, an average of IDR 5,6 million or the equivalent of HK$ 2,900/month, then 2,5 percent of zakat must be issued.
So, if there is a discount for 6 months and the value is still above HK$2,900/month, then the zakat issued is 2,5 percent. However, if the discount received is below HK$2,900, you do not have to pay tithe, but you can donate or donate without determining the value.
