The National Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers is asked to pay more attention to the protection of migrant workers. The request was made by the Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the DPR, Irgan Chairul Mahfiz, after the delegation of authority to manage TKI from the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration to BNP2TKI.
"We want BNP2TKI's performance to be further enhanced in the protection of TKI, because with the momentum of returning this authority there is no longer any reason for BNP2TKI to work without a good and prestigious performance," he said in Jakarta, Thursday (14/10).
Previously, the Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Muhaimin Iskandar signed a ministerial regulation on the Implementation of Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers Abroad. Where, the entire process of placement and protection of TKI, whether pre, during the placement, or post-placement is under the implementation and responsibility of BNP2TKI. Meanwhile the Minister of Manpower and Transmigration has a role as a regulator in the service sector for Indonesian workers.
It is hoped that Irgan, with this transfer of authority, BNP2TKI can optimally carry out its duties as mandated by Law No. 39/2004 on the placement and protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Abroad. According to Irgan, BNP2TKI must also be actively involved in providing TKI insurance claims services effectively and seriously.
The Secretary General of the Central Executive Board of the United Development Party then reminded BNP2TKI not to be negligent in creating various improvements for prospective TKI and TKI in order to protect the good name of the nation. "Including fixing the service for the departure and return of Indonesian workers at the terminals, so that they are truly comfortable, make it easier for migrant workers, respect migrant workers, and ensure a sense of security for migrant workers," he said.
