Al-Qaidah Threatens to Attack the Saudi Royal Family

Al-Qaeda militants have threatened to launch new attacks against members of the Saudi royal family.

The threat emerged in a video broadcast on the Internet Tuesday to commemorate the 5 bombings that targeted the kingdom's interior minister.

"We tell those cruel people that we can arrest you in your office, we can take you in your bed," said Qassem al-Rimi, an al-Qaeda commander on the Arabian Peninsula, a joint network of Yemeni and Saudi Arabian militants. .

"I advise you to check before bed that there are no suicide bombers or bombs in the room," he said. An al-Qaeda suicide bomber attacked the head of Saudi Arabia's anti-terrorism agency, Deputy Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Nayef bin Abdul Aziz, on August 27 last year when he was receiving several members of the public.

"You have attacked our house and destroyed our house, so we attack and destroy yours too," said deputy commander of the Yemeni-Saudi al-Qaeda network, Said ash-Shihri, in a video message broadcast on the Internet.

Al-Qaeda also said they came close to hitting Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz in another attack last year when he was flying to Yemen's capital, Sana`a, for a visit.

The group said it had attempted to attack the visiting Saudi delegation with surface-to-air missiles and also planned to organize a welcoming ceremony at the airport.
