The Phenomenon of Solar and Lunar Eclipses in Islamic View

DDHK. ORG – On October 25, 2022 eclipse Sun happen again. Fenomena This is due to the position of the moon which is between Earth and the sun.

About a quarter of the sun's face is covered by the moon's shadow at the last eclipse in 2022.

But not all regions on earth can witness this natural phenomenon. The partial or partial solar eclipse will be visible across the UK and other parts of Europe, the Urals and West Siberia, Central Asia, West Asia, South Asia, from from northeast Africa. For more details, you can visit the site timeanddate.com.

The Royal Astronomical Society has a comprehensive guide on how to safely watch this closed-sun moment. But the most important thing to remember is never to look directly at the sun because it can damage the eyes.

Instead, you can use tools such as special glasses or make your own vision devices at home.

If the area where you live does not include an eclipse, you can still watch it through the online platform. The Royal Observatory Greenwich will offer a live broadcast showing views from the Annie Maunder Astrographic Telescope at the Royal Observatory along with commentary from astronomers.

Eclipse in Islamic View

Reporting from Republika.co.id, at the time of the Prophet Muhammad this phenomenon happened. However, at that time, many people associated natural phenomena with myths or legends. For example, this incident occurred because of the death of Prophet Ibrahim.

In overcoming this problem, the Prophet gave an explanation in one of his hadiths.

"The sun and the moon are some of the signs of Allah SWT that do not eclipse for the death or life of a person," (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim).

Eclipse Process

The earth we live in orbits around the sun once every year. The moon also orbits around the earth once every lunar month.

At certain times, when the sun is shining brightly and emitting its rays, the rotating moon is in front of it and completely covers it.

This phenomenon is very dangerous if you look directly at it because it emits radiation. The most dangerous radiation is infrared which is transmitted through the sun permanently.

When the moon is in front of the sun and partially covers it, we call this phenomenon a partial eclipse. However, if the moon covers the sun completely, the phenomenon is called a total eclipse in which the sun disappears and the world suddenly goes dark for a minute or two.

The radiation generated from this event can cause temporary or permanent blindness. Scientists recommend not looking at the sun during this event as it sends out large amounts of infrared radiation.

Meanwhile, the moon reflects light and we receive safe rays. Allah SWT describes it as an object that reflects light while the sun is a source of light and illumination.

In addition to this phenomenon there is also a known lunar eclipse. The moon reflects sunlight towards the earth so we see it shining in the sky. Allah SWT says in Surah Al-Furqan verse 61:

الَّذِيْ لَ السَّمَاۤءِ ا لَ ا ا ا ا

"Blessed is (Allah) who made the constellations of stars in the sky and therein a lamp (sun) and a shining moon."

At the time of the lunar eclipse phenomenon, the position of the earth is in the middle of the moon and sun. The earth obscures the sun's light so the moon looks like a dim copper disk.

While solar and lunar eclipses occur on earth, eclipse phenomena also occur on other planets. Most of the planets in the universe have moons orbiting around them and sometimes, these moons pass in front of the sun obscuring the light and leaving the planets dark for a few minutes.

Scientists from NASA were able to take photos of the planet Jupiter during an eclipse. The black spots represent the shadow of the planet's moon during an eclipse. From these facts we can conclude that the sun and moon rotate in a controlled and accurate system and the phenomenon of eclipse is a natural process that does not occur due to the death or life of a person.
