The location of the Babri Ayodhya Mosque in India is controlled by Hindus

A court in India said the disputed site in the city of Ayodhya was shared between Hindus and Muslims and a religious group. This was stated by Hindu lawyer.

"The judge handed over control of the main part of the dispute to the Hindu community," the lawyer said as reported BBC News (30/9). The main part in question is the location of the Babri Mosque which was demolished in 1992 by Hindu extremists.

The judge accepted the claim that somewhere on the site was the birthplace of the Hindu god, Rama.

Several other parts of the site will be controlled by Muslims and a Hindu sect.

The destruction of the mosque by Hindu extremist mobs in 1992 sparked widespread rioting and the wave of rioting claimed 2.000 lives.

Indian officials called on the two sides to remain calm and respect the court's ruling.

The full content of the court's decision is not clear, because a copy has only been submitted to the lawyer involved in this dispute.

A team of Muslim community lawyers is expected to file an appeal. (Mel / ddhongkong.org). *
