This Causes Extreme Weather Heavy Rain in Indonesia

DDHK. ORG – Heavy rain in Indonesia feels more extreme. These past few days, in several areas it has not only rained heavily but was accompanied by strong winds, lightning and thunder.

Reporting from Kompas, the extreme weather phenomenon that hit a number of regions in Indonesia is predicted to occur over the next few days.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), extreme weather in Indonesia will occur until February 28, 2023. Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto said the results of BMKG monitoring related to developments in current weather conditions throughout Indonesia show the significance of atmospheric dynamics.

As a result of these conditions, the impact is an increase in the potential for rainfall in a number of regions in Indonesia, said Guswanto in his release, Wednesday (22/2/2023).

Weather causes extract in Indonesia this is triggered by atmospheric conditions that support the formation of more intensive rain clouds in the future. The trigger for the extreme weather phenomenon is the activity of the stronger Asian Monsoon winds.

Guswanto explained, indications were active cold calls from Asia, as well as the existence of a low pressure center in Australia's West Waters. In addition, extreme weather occurs due to wind circulation patterns that are formed around the territory of Indonesia which form areas where wind speeds meet and slow down (convergence).

This condition can also increase convective activity and maximize the potential for rain cloud growth in several regions of Indonesia in the next few days.

Potential impacts of extreme weather phenomena A number of regions in Indonesia, according to BMKG weather predictions based on impact-based forecasts, there are several areas that are categorized as Alert for the potential impact of heavy rains for the period 22-24 February 2023, including Banten, DKI Jakarta, Central Java, East Java, Sulawesi South, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara.

Based on the dynamics of the atmosphere which can cause the potential for extreme weather phenomena in many areas in Indonesia, the following areas are advised to be alert for the potential for moderate to heavy rain.

These areas are North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, Bengkulu, South Sumatra, Lampung, Bangka Belitung Islands, Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, Nusa Tenggara East, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, North Maluku and West Papua.

Guswanto explained, the public can access information related to the development of extreme weather phenomena and the potential for rain on the sub-district scale through https://signature.bmkg.go.id. [DDHK News]
