The Government Strict TKI Rules

Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Muhaimin Iskandar said the government would tighten regulations on prospective Indonesian workers (TKI).

According to Muhaimin, the tightening is carried out through special control methods by testing the competence of prospective migrant workers who will go abroad. "Now, not all prospective migrant workers who want to work abroad can graduate," said Muhaimin at the BNP2TKI building, Friday, January 6, 2012.

The competency test, said Muhaimin, includes language skills tests and the laws of the destination country. For that, there will be a special supervisory team that will supervise and monitor the selection. "So that all those who go abroad can be detected which ones are feasible and which are not," he said. The team comes from the National Certification Agency.

Muhaimin said that this step was taken so that TKI had good preparation. "With an appeal, don't leave before it's ready," he said.

The tightening of the rules is carried out after an evaluation of violations in the process of leaving Indonesian labor migrants. "Including competency certification which must be closely guarded," said Muhaimin.

So far, the government has not provided proper educational provisions for prospective migrant workers who are leaving for overseas. Migrant Care Director Anis Hidayah revealed that there are many TKI who have already departed abroad, but still do not have sufficient knowledge. These prospective migrant workers do not have sufficient knowledge of their rights and the country of destination. (TEMPO.CO). *
