Schools in Connecticut Set Muslim Holiday Holidays

Connecticut-Schools-Approve-Muslim-HolidaysDDHK News, United States - New London Public Schools, in the state of Connecticut, United States, have designated Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as holidays. The Connecticut Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) welcomed the decision on two Muslim holidays for the upcoming school year.

"We welcome the inclusion of Islamic holidays in the school calendar because it will serve to improve the atmosphere of a positive learning environment for Muslim students," said CAIR-Connecticut Executive Director Mongi Dhaouadi, Tuesday (18/3).

In the calendar for the 2014-2015 school year, the school includes Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as days where school students are allowed to be absent.

The school also asked teachers not to schedule tests on that date.

A number of schools in America have also recognized holidays for students who are Muslim.

In Boston, the top school Cambridge Public School District issued a decree in 2010 to recognize Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as holidays for Muslim students. Several schools in New Jersey have also done the same. (mel / onislam.net / localhost / project / personal / ddhongkong.org / ddhongkong.org). *
