Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Hong Kong Eid Al-Fitr Monday 2 May 2022

DDHK.ORG - Muslims in Hong Kong, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia simultaneously celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1 Syawal 1443 Hijriyah on Monday, May 2, 2022. This is based on the determination made by the authorities in each of these countries.

"Assalamualaikum! The Incorporated Trustees of The Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong announced that Eid will start on May 2 (Monday). 'Eid Mubarak! this was announced on the official Facebook page of the Islamic Union of Hong Kong, Sunday (1/5/2022) evening.

A similar announcement was also made by the Islamic Union of Hong Kong (IUHK) through its official website, iuhk.org. Through this announcement, IUHK also announced that Ammar Mosque, Wan Chai, will hold 3 Eid prayer sessions, with sermons in 3 languages. For the Eid prayer with an Indonesian language sermon, Ustadz Abdul Muhaemin Karim will lead, scheduled for the third session, starting at 10.00.

From Indonesia, based on the isbat trial for the initial determination of Syawal 1443 H which was led directly by the Minister of Religion, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, on Sunday (1/5/2022), the Government of Indonesia, through the Ministry of Religion, decided that Eid al-Fitr in Indonesia also falls on Monday, May 2, 2022. "The isbat assembly unanimously determined that 1 Shawwal 1443 Hijriyah falls on Monday 2 May," said Yaqut.

The Ministry of Religion itself has observed the position of the new moon at 99 points in all provinces in Indonesia. They come from the Ministry of Religion Regional Office officials who work closely with the Religious Courts, Islamic organizations and related agencies. Also present were representatives of Islamic mass organizations such as the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Muhammadiyah, and representatives from Commission VIII of the DPR. Also present were representatives from Islamic countries in Indonesia.

Previously, the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia had determined that Eid Al-Fitr or 1 Shawwal 1443 Hijri in the country fell on Monday local time. "Monday is the first day of the blessed Eid al-Fitr this year," a supreme court official told the Saudi Press Agency on Saturday (30/4/2022), as quoted by AFP.

As reported by CNN Indonesia from Al Arabiya, the official said that the Saudi Supreme Court took this decision because the month of Shawwal had not been seen on Saturday.

Before Saudi Arabia, a number of other countries in the Middle East such as the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Egypt, Sudan, Lebanon, and Turkey also set 1 Shawwal 1443 Hijri to fall on Monday.   [DDHKNews]
