Ruling on men wearing gold rings

DDHK.ORG - Ruling on men wearing gold rings

Peace, mercy and blessings of God

Mr. Ustadz, I want to ask about wedding rings. Is it permissible for the groom to wear a gold wedding ring?

Reportedly, a man is forbidden to wear gold jewelry. Is that true?

Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

Bismillah… Islam is a very beautiful religion. Allah Subhanahu wata'ala is the Most Beautiful and loves beauty. However, there are still rules and limitations that must be obeyed and should not be violated.

Gold is a precious metal that can give a beautiful impression to the wearer. But in Islam, gold is only for women, not for men.

From Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari radiyallahu 'anhu, the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said:

لِباسُ الحَرِيرِ الذَّهَبِ لى لَّ لإِنَاثِهِمْ (رواه الترمذي النسائي )

"It is forbidden to wear silk and gold for the men of my Ummah, and lawful for the women." (HR Tirmidhi, Nasa'i, & Ahmad)

In another hadith, from Ali bin Abi Talib radiyallahu anhu, he said:

اني لُ الله لَّى اللهُ ليه لَّم التخَتُّمِ الذَّهَبِ (رواه لم)

"The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- forbade me to wear a gold ring." (HR Muslim)

The prohibition of wearing a gold ring for men is the ijma' (agreement) of the scholars. Even if there is a slight mixture of gold, the famous (famous) opinions of various madhhabs are still haram.

If a man wants to wear a ring, he should choose only silver, because the ring of the Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- was also made of silver.

Hope it works!

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.
