Malaysian Indigenous Organizations Demand Islamic Pastor Sentenced by ISA

The Malaysian Indigenous Organization (Perkasa) is suing the use of the Internal Security Act (ISA) against a priest who is suspected of insulting Islam in a series of videos on YouTube.

According to Perkasa president, Datuk Ibrahim Ali, ordinary citizens would handle the matter themselves if no immediate action was taken against the priest.

Benjamin Stephens, believed to be a Christian pastor, has uploaded footage of himself preaching at a Sarawak church - believed to have been taken on March 25, 2006 - on a popular video sharing site.

“Use the ISA against those who have consistently insulted Islam. Prevention is always better than finding a cure, "Ibrahim Ali was quoted as saying voa-islam. "This is a serious problem. Perkasa regrets the actions of irresponsible pastors for insulting Islam, "Ibrahim told reporters (29/09).

The outspoken politician claimed that the government had been "too slow" to take action against Benjamin.

The Council of Churches Malaysia (CCM) appreciates Putrajaya's investigation into this matter. "The pastor has acted as an individual representing his own views and not the official views of the churches in Malaysia," he said in a statement in the media. *
