Israel continues to erase Palestinian identity in Al-Quds

Israel continues to strive to erase Palestinian and Islamic identities in Al-Quds (Jerusalem) to pave the way for making the Muslim holy city the capital of the Jewish state.

As well as continuing to tear down Palestinian homes, dig tunnels under the Al-Aqsa Mosque that would bring down the holy mosque, Israel is also closing Palestinian institutions. On Sunday (29/1) Israel closed two Palestinian foundations for 30 days. Both foundations belong to the Islamic Club and the Silwan Social Organization. Israel argues, both are funded by the Hamas movement and carry out "activities in the name of the movement".

The Al-Maqdisi Foundation assesses that the closure step and what happened previously during 2011, occurred in dozens of Palestinian institutions and foundations in Al-Quds, as part of policies implemented since 1967 until now. The policy of eliminating Palestinian identity and its foundations began with the closure of the Arab city government in al Quds (the mandate of the capital) in 1967, followed by the closure of 35 foundations and civil society organizations of various forms until 1986.

The Al-Maqdisi Foundation added that there was an increase in violations and restrictions on freedom of private and civil activities. When the second intifada broke out in 2000, Israel closed down civil society institutions in various fields of empowerment and assistance. From 1995 to November 2011 Israel closed 53 Palestinian foundations.

The world human rights organization, Human Rights Watch (HRW), called on the Israeli government to stop the repressive destruction of Palestinian homes and provide compensation to those who have been left homeless until now.

The Israeli occupation authority has resulted in the abandonment of children and women in open and cold places due to the destruction of their homes and barracks. (Mel / Palestinian Info / ddhongkong.org). *
