I took a shower after my period and then the next day a little more blood came out

Assalamualaikum. Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

When a person has taken a bath after finishing his period, then he prays, reads Alquran, and so on, then the next day a little menstrual blood comes out again when he wants to pray, is his prayer valid? Or, have to take another big shower?

Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

ANSWER:

Wassalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarokaatuh.

Bismillah... Menstruation is a monthly cycle for women when they reach puberty. The duration is a minimum of a day and a night and a maximum of 15 days and nights, according to the majority of scholars. Although, Hanafi scholars argue that the maximum period of menstruation is 10 days and nights.

During menstruation, a woman is prohibited from performing religious activities such as praying, reading the Qur'an, tawaf, and so on. The Prophet said:

الصلاة ام ائك (أبو اود النسائي)

"Leave prayer as many days as your menstruation". (Hadith narrated by Abu Dawud & Nasa'i)

Every woman experiences different periods of menstruation. There are only one day and one night, 2 days, 3 days, 4 days, 5 days, 6 days, 7 days, and so on up to a maximum of 15 days. However, the majority of women usually experience menstruation for 7 days or a week.

Then what if there is a woman who feels she is already pure with a sign that the blood is no longer coming out, but when she is purified (bathing), the blood comes back out? Does it include menstruation or not (istihadlah)?

There are two things that must be considered in experiencing this incident: first, is the time for follow-up bleeding still in the menstrual cycle (maximum 15 days) or not (more than 15 days)? Second, what is the blood type?

For example, a woman usually menstruates for 7 days each month. If less than 7 days or exactly 7 days the blood stops then he bathes and washes. Then the blood came out again. This is where women usually get confused.

If the blood that comes out after 7 days is still in the form of menstrual blood (red or blackish red), then he is still considered menstruating until it is completely clean and is waited for a maximum of the 15th day. But if after 15 days the blood that comes out is still exactly like menstrual blood, then it is not menstruation but istihadlah. And the person concerned must take a bath and then pray because he is considered holy.

But if it's been 7 days or entering the 8th day the blood comes out only in the form of brown spots or spots, then he is already pure and must take a bath and then pray without having to wait until the 15th day.

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Regards!
