I Achieve My Ideals in the Land of Hong Kong

Hong Kong Time-for-changeJust call my name Nurni (not his real name). I am the second of five children. I have one older sister and three younger siblings.

My mother died several years ago, not long after the birth of my last sister. Since the birth of my last brother, my father did not care about his family anymore, even had an affair with other women. Because of this, my mother became often sick and eventually died.

Since my mother died, my siblings and I have lived with my grandmother, uncle and aunt. My father doesn't care about our life anymore.

Actually I really want to continue my education to a higher level. But what is the power, again the cost constraints that are taken into consideration.

Graduated from junior high school, I decided to migrate to Bandung. There I worked as a housemaid. Even though I worked as a housemaid, my enthusiasm for learning was not lost.

When I accidentally cleaned up my employer's house, I found Japanese books. I Photo copy and I put it back in place. I memorized the Japanese one by one between my work routines.

I worked in Bandung and didn't last long, only 5 months. I thought how can I continue my dream like this, rarely go out of the house and there is no way my employer would allow me to work while studying.

At that time there was a sponsor who offered me to work in Hong Kong. After going through labor procedures and almost half a year studying at the BLK (Vocational Training Center), I finally left for Hong Kong.

Alhamdulillah, I got a good employer, even though I only got two days off a month. It wasn't Sunday, too, but Saturday. I also comply with the employer's rules.

A few months later, the intention to study again arose. Even though I went through tough discussions with my employer, I ended up being able to take off every Saturday. With four days off a month, I can study more freely, even though I pursue Package C (high school equivalent).

Learning while working is not easy, let alone joining an employer who works late at night. You have to be clever in dividing your time, especially if you have a lot of work from school. Sometimes drop too. But I have to encourage myself not to break up halfway. I must be able to. You can do it!

Alhamdulillah, after going through a long and winding struggle, I finally finished the pursuit of Package C with the highest score out of several hundred students. I'm proud and relieved. My employer is very proud of me.

Not long after graduating from pursuing Package C, I applied to a private university in Hong Kong. However, it does not last long because it requires a lot of money. Understandably, I have to help support the life and education of my younger siblings in Indonesia.

Currently I am studying more about religion. I improve reading and writing Al-Quranmy. Do not forget to save while saving money to enter higher education in Indonesia.

Obstacles and obstacles are always there. I consider all of that as a weapon so that I will continue to be motivated to learn. All that I did for my dream to become a teacher. I can do it. Insha Allah. (As told to Minnie / localhost / project / personal / ddhongkong.org / ddhongkong.org /Dompetdhuafa.org). *
