Extreme Weather Affects Some Areas

Flash floods hit the Wasior area, Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua, last Monday. The floods made the area on the coast completely destroyed.

From Sunday to Monday morning, the rain never stopped causing the Batang Salai River, which divides the Wasior area to overflow, causing flash floods that have claimed more than 100 lives. Hundreds of people were injured and dozens more are still in search.

Now the flood victims are confused about where to take shelter because their houses have been swept away by the flood. Not a few residents are now also threatened with hunger and various diseases. Thousands of refugees are staying in emergency tents.

Not only in Papua, extreme weather has also hit a number of areas in the country. In the capital city, high rainfall causes floods to inundate residents' housing. Strong winds are also a scourge for road users. Not a few buildings and vehicles were damaged by falling trees. Even a number of billboards could not resist the wind. (Liputan6)
