British extremist groups attack London Muslims

British extremist groups belonging to the English Defense League (EDL) attack London Muslims with ridicule and threats of violence. "They ordered a lot of (alcoholic) drinks and suddenly went to the kitchen and took some knives," said the witness.

sirtus abna.ir reported that, Sunday (15/1), the incident took place near the East London Mosque, Whitechapel. Eyewitnesses said the clashes occurred when Muslims fought back as a result of being provoked by the EDL crowd who shouted anti-Islamic slogans towards the mosque.

The EDL group, known to be anti-Islam, previously attended a demonstration in the Barking area. After that they entered a bar opposite the mosque to drink. After drinking at the bar, they became violent.

They also shouted ridicule at things considered sacred to Muslims and angered the Muslim community around the London Mosque. Clashes broke out between the EDL group and the community around the mosque. One person was reportedly seriously injured and taken to hospital.

"The EDL mob continued to throw bottles at the local population and towards the mosque," said an eye witness. The police arrested 15 people who were considered to be the culprits of violence from EDL and youths around the mosque. "This incident involved hundreds of people," said a police spokesman.
