British Muslim Groups Are Ready to Turn Former Clubs into Islamic Schools

DDHK News - The Muslim group "Flintshire Cultural Muslim Society" (FMCS), hopes to quickly finalize its plans to buy an empty Deeside social club. Currently FMCS uses the Queensferry War Memorial Institute, but they desperately need more space due to the growing demand for members.

They said an offer had been made to buy a used Shotton Lane Social Club (SLSC) to be used as a multicultural center.

Over the past year FMCS - founded 18 months ago - used the Queensferry community center for Islamic and Arabic school classes for children and adults twice a week. The class continues to grow from a group of 20 students to three classes of 35 students.

"Due to limited space and demands that keep coming from the community, we are no longer able to provide effective and efficient services. There is an urgent need for larger room facilities, "the FMCS website said. "We have found a building that will meet the current and future needs of the Muslim community in Flintshire - the Cotton Lane Social Club".

"We want better cooperation ... This is a hub for building understanding," said Mohammed Monchab Ali, chairman of the United Kingdom's Sylhet Welfare and Development Council, a charity that helps Bangladeshis living in the UK.

Last summer, the Wrexham Muslim Association also purchased the former Miners Institute building in the city. (Mel / BBC). *
