The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Rejects the Idea of ​​Merging Religions

DDHK.ORG - The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed Al Tayyeb, rejected calls for the merging of religions in a belief called Abrahamism. He emphasized that the idea of ​​merging religions like this is not possible within the Islamic belief.

"Based on our heavenly religious beliefs, we believe it is impossible for humans to be united in one religion," he said, as quoted by Arab News, Tuesday (9/11/2021).

Sheikh Al-Azhar explained that people were born and raised with different cultures. Some of the differences that exist such as color, belief, thought, language, and even fingerprints.

On that basis, Al Tayyeb is of the view, it is impossible to unite people in one unified religion. He also assessed that the discourse on the merging of religions was contrary to the value of freedom of belief.
"This call, it seems, seeks to combine Judaism, Christianity and Islam in one religion under the name Abrahamism or the religion of Abraham," Al Tayyeb said.

However, Al Tayyeb is aware that the discourse was echoed to prevent conflict and promote unity between people. "This call, which is similar to the call for globalization, ending history, global ethics, and so on, has emerged to promote unity and unity among people, as well as to eliminate the causes of strife and conflict," he said.

As reported by The National News, Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are the three main religions of Abraham. Its adherents regard Abraham or Abraham as an important prophet or father figure.
Sheikh Al Tayyeb himself is known as an activist for inter-religious dialogue.
