O Allah, Introduce Me to Myself

"Whoever knows himself, he will be busy to improve himself rather than busy looking for the shame and mistakes of others. (Ibnul Qayyim)

Among the characteristics of a servant's happiness and victory are: When his knowledge increases, so does his humility and compassion. Every time more righteous deeds are done, there will be more fear and caution in carrying out Allah's commands. As he got older, the less his worldly ambitions became. As his wealth increased, so did his generosity and giving to others. If one's ability and position increases, the closeness to humans will increase and the humiliation will be towards them.

On the contrary, the characteristics of accidents are: As the knowledge increases, the arrogance increases. With every increase in his charity, the more his pride in himself and his contempt for others grew. The more his abilities and positions increase, the more his arrogance will be. " (Al Fawa-id, Imam Ibnul Qayyim)

Brother rahimakumullah,
What is your mood when reading the love verses written by Ibnul Qayyim?, Including the characteristics of a happy or wretched servant? May Allah swt guide our hearts and steps to continue to have the character of happy and victorious people. May Allah also keep our hearts and steps away from the character of people deceived by knowledge, charity and abilities, Amen.

Brother rahimakumullah,
Recognizing ourselves is very important, Rasulullah teaches us to often perform self-service rather than evaluating others, people who are busy with disgrace and shortcomings are more fortunate than busy people who pay attention to the shortcomings of others. And indeed the benefits of following the advice of the Prophet Muhammad is as said by Ibnul Qayyim, "Whoever knows himself, he will be busy to improve himself rather than busy looking for the shame of other people's mistakes"

Brother rahimakumullah,
Know yourself, understand its habits, feel its every vibration. Then be careful and control his will and tendencies. Be aware of the drawbacks and take advantage of the advantages. Pray to Allah that He will reveal His knowledge about self. As the prayer chanted by Yusuf bin Asbath, a student of Sofyan Ats Tsauri: "Allahumma arrifni nafsi", O Allah, introduce me to myself ...

The human soul holds many secrets. The mystery of the human heart and soul is difficult to recognize properly except with the help of Allah SWT to us. For this reason, the well-known scholar who is an expert in psychological matters, Sahal bin Abdillah, said that recognizing oneself is more difficult and more subtle than recognizing enemies. This means that the shame and deficiencies that are hidden within, are very difficult to detect, and must be opened by Allah SWT so that someone can clean himself and his soul.

If a person has succeeded in knowing and knowing what the condition of his soul is, then he will easily control and monitor his bad desires. This is what the Makkah scholar named Wuhaib bin Ward said, "Indeed, among the goodness of my soul is my knowledge of the ugliness of my soul. It is enough for a believer to protect himself from badness if he knows the badness of his soul and then straightens it out. "

As also said Hasan Al Basri, "A servant is still in good condition as long as he realizes and knows something that is destroying his deeds. (Az Zuhd, Imam Ahmad. "

Brother rahimakumullah,
May Allah tighten our hands in His path. That's the importance of knowing yourself. To the extent that Umar bin Abdul Aziz, nicknamed the fifth rashidin khulafaur, said, "I have a mind that I know God will punish me for it." (Riyadun Nufus, 1/355). Umar bin Abdul Aziz contemplated himself a lot and knew him very well, so that extraordinary words appeared.

In fact, because of that deep self-knowledge, Fudhail bin Iyadh ra. Saying, "la yu'rifur riya ila mukhlish," riya cannot possibly be realized, unless by a sincere person. Yes, people who taste the sweetness of sincerity, will definitely know the bitterness of riya. On the other hand, people who have never felt the pleasure of being sincere, cannot possibly recognize the bitterness of riya. That is, the sweetness of the sincerity and the bitterness of riya, is only felt by people who are accustomed to and recognize the vibrations of the soul.

Brother rahimakumullah,
What Fudhail said earlier started because of his very familiar condition with the character of his own soul. People who do not know themselves, even deny their ugliness are people who will not be able to know, let alone influence the souls of others. Moreover, straightening the curves, he would not be able to. This is the material mentioned by Al Kailani when he said, "If you are able to rectify the deficiencies that exist in your idri, it means that you are able to rectify the deficiencies that exist in other than yourself." He continued, "Your ability to get rid of evil depends on the strength of your faith in fighting the evil in you. Your weakness in staying in the house from changing the evil is because of the weakness of your faith in fighting the evil that is in you. It is the sturdiness and strength of faith that strengthens the scholars when they face the evil army of both humans and jinn. " (Al-Fathur Rabbani, 30)
