Related to HK$43 Million Drugs, 3 Papers from Indonesia Arrested in Hong Kong

DDHK.ORG - A total of six people were arrested in a drug raid in Yuen Long on Monday, August 15, 2022, in which the police confiscated 41 kilos of cocaine and the drug “ice” hidden inside packets of Indonesian brand instant fried noodles. Of the 6 people arrested, 3 of them are women from Indonesia.

“Three Indonesian women and three Sri Lankan men, aged 35 to 64, were arrested by officers at around 15.00 p.m. while unloading containers from a warehouse on Tung Wui Street in Kam Tin, Yuen Long,” reported The Standard, Wednesday, 17 August 2022.

Among 1.323 boxes of instant noodles, officers confiscated a total of 40 kilos of cocaine and 1 kilo gram of shabu-shabu, commonly known as ice drugs. “The six were later arrested on suspicion of distributing dangerous drugs. All of them hold an acknowledgment form (paper status), which is issued by the Immigration Department,” The Standard wrote, citing police.

Officers said another warehouse on Wing Kei Street in Kwai Chung was also raided that same afternoon and found 11 cocaine bricks, weighing a total of 11 kilograms, in refrigerated containers. The drugs seized in the two anti-drug operations totaled around HK$43 million.

The police have filed charges against two Indonesian citizens aged 39 and 42. The other four will be detained.

Officers said the cargo arrived in the city from Malaysia and Brazil, and believed the drug syndicates diverted their drug transportation into the waters during the pandemic. Police are still investigating the source of the drugs. They will also investigate whether the two cases are related and whether the six are members of a triad group.

Trafficking in dangerous drugs is a serious offense in Hong Kong. The maximum penalty after being found guilty is a fine of HK$5 million and life imprisonment. [DDHKNews]
