Swedish Anti-Islam Demonstrators Determined to Burn Up Alquran Prohibited

The Swedish police still allowed the burning of the Koran to take place on Monday (31/7/2023), despite being criticized by various parties for prohibiting such activities. A number of protesters will again stage an action to burn the Koran on Monday afternoon Stockholm time. This time, they held the action outside the Swedish parliament building in the capital.

The demonstrators said they would continue to burn the Koran until the government banned the Muslim holy book in Sweden. "I will burn it (the Koran) many times, until you ban it," the organizer of the demonstration, Salwan Najem, told local newspaper Expressen, as reported by CNN Indonesia.

Najem has held similar demonstrations with an Iraqi immigrant, Salwan Momika, twice in Stockholm. One of the arson acts was carried out at the Stockholm Central Mosque during the Eid al-Adha celebration yesterday.

Quoted by AFP, it is reported that the burning of the latest Qur'an will take place at around 13.00 local time. In fact, Sweden began to consider a ban on burning Al-Qur'ans after Stockholm was criticized by many countries and Islamic groups related to the burning of holy books were increasingly widespread in the country.
