Lintang Ready to Help Ex-Migrant Workers Who Want to Open a Reading House in their Home Village

DDHK.ORG - Since 2018, Lintang has retired as an Indonesian migrant worker in Hong Kong. Since two years ago, this woman, who claims her real name is Irna Saikun, has managed the Al-Ikhlas Star Reading House, which she started in her hometown, in Margorejo District, Pati, Central Java.

"Now I am continuing my hobby of reading books at the reading house that I had previously started," said Lintang.

While still working in Hong Kong, Latitude opened the Al-Ikhlas Star lesehan library in Victoria Park, Causeway Bay. "Now, managing a reading house at home," he said.

Lintang makes use of the rarely used living room of his house to be "transformed" into a library. "The thing is, if there are guests they prefer to chat on the terrace. By turning it into a reading house, the living room is not redundant, ”he said.

At the reading house, Lintang, who is assisted by a nephew, serves reading assistance for children, especially for reading English books. In addition, at her reading house the woman who has a birthday on 9 September also provides free English tutoring services for visitors.

Rumah Baca Bintang Al-Ikhlas also allows visitors to borrow the books they like to take home. "Those who come to our reading house, from pre-school children to 8th graders. All the services we provide are free, free of charge," said Lintang.

It is recorded that every day there are always 3-6 children who come to visit to read books. Usually, they come in groups. At her reading house, Lintang provides about 3.000 reading books.
