Joko Widodo: Palestine is a close friend of Indonesia

Recently Chairman Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had a bilateral meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad IM Shtayyeh at the Presidential Palace Bogor, West Java, Monday (24/10/2022).

“Welcome to Jakarta Your Excellency PM Shtayyeh and glad to see you again after our meeting in Glasgow. Palestine is a close friend of Indonesia," Jokowi said as reported by Republika.co.id.

Joko Widodo's Hope

According to Jokowi, Palestine was one of the first countries to recognize Indonesia's independence. He also emphasized that Indonesia was consistent in continuing to support the Palestinian struggle.

Jokowi also hopes that this bilateral meeting will further strengthen the already good relationship.

"Indonesia also consistently continues to support the struggle of the Palestinian people and I hope that this noble visit can further strengthen this already good relationship," said Joko Widodo.

When planting trees together in a series of welcoming ceremonies, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad IM Shtayyeh expressed his gratitude to Jokowi.

He also said that the meranti tree planted together is a Jerusalem tree in Indonesia.

"Thank you very much. This is the Jerusalem tree in the heart of Indonesia. Thank you Mr President for making this happen," said Shtayyeh. [DDHK News]
