One of the most common sins is usury. Among the acts of usury is someone borrowing money from a (conventional) bank with a contract of more return or interest. Because every loan that draws excess in payment or repayment is usury. And of course the agreement has been approved by the creditor & debtor.

More than that, the perpetrators of usury will receive anathema. Anathema means far from mercy. From Jabir radliyãllahu 'anhu, said:

O Allah (رواه مسلم)

"The Messenger of Allah shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam cursed usury eaters (lenders), usury depositors (borrowing customers), usury transaction writers (secretaries) and two witnesses who witnessed usury transactions." He said, "All are equal in sin." (Muslim HR)

So that if someone is cursed, surely blessings will come away from him. Na'udzu biLlahi min dzalik.

Then how do you advise someone (especially a husband in this case) who is often in debt by usury so that he wants to stop and repent from it?

First, teach him to always be good at being grateful and qana'ah (accepting what is) for the good fortune he already has.
One of the reasons why someone owes money to a bank or moneylender is to follow a lifestyle. It is true that some people borrow money by way of usury because they are tight. However, rest assured that if someone borrows money at usury even though he is in a tight spot, basically he is creating a new problem.

Second, don't help him pay off his debts while he can. This is a form of learning and teaching for him.

Third, invite him to ask Allah a lot so he can repent from usury and pray a lot with the following prayer:

God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing. ضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ (رواه الترمذي)

"O Allah, grant me what is lawful and keep me away from what is unlawful and fulfill me with Your bounty from other than You." (HR Tirmidhi)

May Allah protect us from usury.

Hope it is useful…
