List of IMEI Phones Purchased Overseas, Here's How!

DDHK. ORG – IMEI or International Mobile Equipment Identity being thing slope for those who have the device cell phone, handheld computers, and tablets (HKT) from outside country.

Someone who brings or buys HKT from abroad can easily and quickly use it domestically. The condition is that people must register the HKT IMEI number.

Starting April 18 2020, cellphones purchased abroad must be registered with a number (IMEI), so that they can be connected to cellular operator services operating in Indonesia.

There are two ways to register HKT from abroad, namely through www.beacukai.go.id or the Mobile Customs application.

Currently, registration via the application can only be used via an Android device. After registering, the user will receive a QR Code which will be handed over to the Customs officer at the arrival terminal for IMEI registration.

IMEI registration or registration of cellphones purchased abroad can be done at the Customs office where the buyer of the device arrives, it can be at airports, seaports and other border gates.

However, complete data for registering the IMEI of the cellphone can be filled in independently via the customs website or via the Mobile Customs application which can be downloaded at the Google Play Store (especially for Android phones).

Following are the IMEI registration steps

  1. Go to the customs website at https://ecd.beacukai.go.id/
  2. Fill in your data as requested, including the IMEI number. The IMEI number can be seen in the HP settings.
  3. Got a QR code
  4. Show it to customs officials for scanning
  5. Go to the IMEI registration counter
  6. Take queue number
  7. Sitting on a waiting chair, waiting to be called according to the queue number
  8. After being called, show the QR Code, passport, and cellphone that you want to register IMEI to the officer
  9. The cellphone will be active for a maximum of 2×24 hours

Steps 1 to 3 can be done before you travel. Step 4 and so on are carried out at the place of arrival, both the airport and the port.

After the verification process is complete, the HKT devices brought (except laptops) will be approved by the local Customs officials, only then can local Indonesian operator SIM cards be installed.

It should be noted, the steps above can be carried out if a passenger or crew member of the means of transportation brings HKT devices purchased from abroad (hand carry) into Indonesia.

If all the devices you carry cost more than US$500 (around Rp.7,8 million), these items will also be subject to tax fees in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

According to the post on the official Customs Instagram account (@beacukairi), the IMEI registration process will also be carried out by the sending company through Customs as well.
As for foreign tourists who carry cell phones with SIM cards from cellular operators from abroad, they don't need to bother registering their device's IMEI.

They only need to register at cellular operator outlets operating in the country to get access to network services for the next 90 days.

IMEI verification

Reporting from Katadata, IMEI generally consists of 14 digits and one additional digit for re-verification. These digits are used for various information on the cellphone.

This exemption applies if people register their HKT IMEI before 60 days after arriving in the country.

The exemption of US$ 500 remains valid for passengers who have just registered their IMEI after undergoing quarantine for international flight passengers.

Foreign travelers (PPLN) with HKT from abroad are advised to register for IMEI before 5 days after landing through the official website or application. PPLN will receive a QR Code which will be shown to Customs officers for IMEI registration.

This method can still be done after PPLN has quarantined international flight passengers. PPLN only needs to show the quarantine completion date to the officers. People can still register their HKT IMEI after 60 days of landing in the country, but are not exempt from import duties and PDRI worth US$ 500 and must come to the nearest Customs Office.

The documents that must be brought are passports, airplane tickets, and the device you want to register.

Passengers who want to know if their device has been registered with IMEI or have not been able to do an independent check via www.beacukai.go.id/cek-imei.html.

If the device has been registered but still doesn't get a signal, passengers can wait a maximum of 2×24 hours from registration.

However, if by the specified time limit they still do not get a telecommunications network, passengers are advised to contact the Kemenkominfo (Ministry of Communication and Information) call center via telephone line 159.
