How to Read Hamzah Washal at the Beginning of a Sentence
Peace, mercy and blessings of God
Ustadz, I want to ask a question.
That's what I circled in red ink, how do I read it? Please write in Latin letters, Ustadz.
Thank you, Ustadz.
Greetings, Fulanah
ANSWER:
Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings be upon you
The sentence above is in the form of a fiil (meaning action) sentence in Arabic. Well, the first letter of the word is in the form of hamzah. Hamza is called hamzah wasal. Hamzah washal is a hamzah that is read at the beginning of the reading, but is not read in the middle of a sentence.
Lafadz above comes from fiil madhi (verb used for the past) in the form of لَ, qotala.
Harokat hamzah washal is usually formed from the third letter of fiil mudhori' (the second modified form of Arabic tashrif). Fiil Mudhori' from lafazh لَ in the form of
لُ, yaqtulu.
The third letter of the lafadz لُ is dhommah. So how to read harokat on hamzah wasal above is لُوْا, uqtuluu.
For simplicity, pay attention to the third letter of the sentence. So the harokat is the initial harokat with the hamzah.
Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.
Peace, mercy and blessings of God
