Fasting but not Tarawih Prayers

Assalamualaikum. Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

If you are fasting but you don't pray tarawih, is your fast valid?

Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

ANSWER:

Wassalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarokaatuh.

People who fast but do not pray tarawih, then the fast remains valid as long as the pillars of fasting are fulfilled, namely; intention, imsak (refraining from eating, drinking, listening, and all things that can break the fast), and the fulfillment of the time of fasting from dawn to sunset.

It's just that, if someone does not perform tarawih prayers or other night prayers, then he is missing the opportunity, practice, great reward that can be achieved in the month of Ramadan.

Hence, in this case fasting and evening prayer or tarawih are two packages of commands whose hadith editorial is very similar.

Rasulullah SAW said:

ام ان انا احتسابا له ا (متفق ليه)

"Whoever fasts Ramadan because of faith and hope (reward from Allah), then his sins that have been then forgiven". (Narrated by Bukhari Muslim)

In another hadith the Messenger of Allah said:

ام ان انا احتسابا له ا (متفق ليه)

"Whoever performs qiyam (night prayer) in the month of Ramadan because of faith and hope (reward from Allah), then his past sins are forgiven". (Narrated by Bukhari Muslim)

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Regards!
