Diligent alms but never send money to the mother

ASKING:

Assalamualaikum, Chaplain.

If we have a bad relationship with our birth mother because from a young age, we were cared for by our grandmother, then after working and earning there is an intention to help the mother's economy but there are still things that have stuck in her heart, so far we haven't been able to send money to the biological mother, instead she is diligent Giving alms to the mosque or giving alms to orphans, what is the law? Is his alms including in vain?

Salam,

Fulanah

ANSWER:

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Bismillah… After all, a mother deserves the best service from her children, regardless of whether she is a believer or not. Even Allah juxtaposes the command of filial piety (including helping the economy) to parents with the command to worship Allah alone without associating Him with anything.

Giving alms to mosques and the poor is highly recommended. However, start with giving alms and providing for close people such as parents and relatives. Because, besides giving alms, it also includes connecting the relationship.

Rasulullah saw said: "Almsgiving to the poor is one charity and to relatives there are two (kindness): charity and friendship". (HR Tirmidhi)

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.
