As of January 1, 2022, the Signing of the Work Contract Requires Written Family Approval, Known by the Village Head or Lurah

DDHK.ORG - Pemerintah Indonesia issued a new policy regarding the requirements for signing the employment contract of Indonesian migrant workers, including those in Hong Kong. That is, there must be the approval of the husband, wife, parents, or guardian, and it must be known by the village head or lurah.

This was announced by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) Hong Kong through its official Facebook page, Saturday, December 11, 2021. This policy applies to both those who renew their employment contracts and those who change employers.

“Indonesian Migrant Workers who are going to renew their work contracts (renew) or change employers (transfer) need to include a copy of the approval letter from their husband/wife/parents/guardian known to the village head or local lurah. The approval letter format can be downloaded at the following link: https://bit.ly/surat1jan22," wrote the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong.

The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong explained that the husband's or wife's approval letter is for married migrant workers. While the letter of approval from parents or guardians is for those who are not or are not married. The Consulate General claims that this latest policy is based on the Regulation of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) No. 01 of 2020.

"The purpose and objective of the BP2MI provisions is to ensure that PMIs remain protected and get full support from their families to work in the country of placement. This provision applies in all placement countries, including Hong Kong.”

The approval letter is sufficient in the form of a copy of the letter, namely in the form of a photo or scan. The original letter does not need to be sent to Hong Kong. "This provision takes effect from January 1, 2022," wrote the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong.

Related to that, among the Indonesian community in Hong Kong, letters were sent by the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong to two heads of agency associations. Namely, to the Chairman of the Association of PPTKI Hong Kong Ltd., Mr. Cheung Kitman; and Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Skilled Workforce Placement Companies (HK -Macao) Ltd., Mr. Ringo Wong.

The letter was dated December 10, 2021 and signed by Consul General Ricky Suhendar. "In connection with these matters, an accredited PMI placement agent at the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong is required to complete the said approval letter when submitting an application for legalization of the renewal (renewal) of PMI's work contract and/or legalization of PMI's work contract that changes employers (transfer) to the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong, ” Consul General Ricky wrote in the letter.

As of Wednesday (15/12/2021), the upload of the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong regarding this policy on its official page has received 17 thousand comments. Many of the netizens expressed their rejection.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Consul General and his gang. It's not enough for you to feel the heroes of the country's foreign exchange, now instead of protecting them, you want to make the citizens more complicated. Please reconsider and withdraw, sir. Sorry, don't worry, you guys are a gang of corruptors, so the oppression is only concerned with your distended stomach," wrote the Gorasle Channel in the comments column.

Meanwhile, an account called Banu Wati wrote, “THE POLICY IS NOT WISE. % #TOLAKKKKKKKKKKKK.”

In the comments column of the announcement post, many wrote hash marks or the hashtag # REJECT. [DDHKNews]
