As of Thursday, China Sichuan Earthquake Death Toll 82 People

DDHK.ORG - As of Thursday (8/9/2022), the death toll from the earthquake in Sichuan Province, China, reached 82 people. As reported by CNN Indonesia, Chinese state media CCTV reported that 46 people died in Ganzi Prefecture and 36 people died in Ya'an City.

It was also recorded that more than 270 people were injured and 35 others are still missing. According to the People's Daily, more than 22 people were evacuated to 124 security posts in Ganzi and Ya'an.

Meanwhile, the national weather service reported that the location of the earthquake would rain on Thursday (8/9) and Friday (9/9). "Since the geological conditions following the earthquake are inherently fragile, and rains can cause landslides, local areas need to be on alert for a second disaster," the agency said in a statement.

As reported by AFP, Sichuan was rocked by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6,6 on Monday (5/9/2022). The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), paramilitary police, and fire services even had to place more than 10.000 of their workers into the area.

Meanwhile, rescuers had to deal with flash floods and landslides in the area surrounding the earthquake. Both disasters forced residents to be relocated from their destroyed homes.

In the evacuation, the residents had to be evacuated using ropes and stretchers. “We also had to pass through water to get to Xingfu Village. The rushing flow in the mountains carries rocks, rocks that you can't see in the water are our biggest threat," a member of the rescue team, Tan Ke, told CCTV.

“We quickly used ropes to form a human ladder. The first time we crossed the river, the water reached our knees and thighs. When we arrived at a safe location, the flash flood had reached our waists,” said the officer. [DDHKNews]
