Since April the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong has assisted 215 migrant workers from Macau

DDHK.ORG - The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) Hong Kong succeeded in assisting the repatriation of 91 stranded migrant workers and crew members in Macau and Hong Kong ports without mandatory quarantine provisions. This success is due to the close cooperation and good relations with the authorities of Hong Kong and Macau.

In total, since April 2020, as many as 215 Indonesian migrant workers who previously worked in Macau have been assisted by the Indonesian Consulate to return to the country. "The repatriation of migrant workers from Macau is the sixth repatriation of the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong since the tightening policy in and out of Macau. Starting April 2020, the Indonesian Consulate General has repatriated 215 PMIs from Macau. Until now, there have been no commercial flights from Macau to Jakarta, so the Macao PMI must go to Hong Kong first, "said Consul General Ricky Suhendar, as reported by the KJRI's official Facebook page.

Ana Novitasari, one of the migrant workers who returned home on October 1 yesterday, stated that the cost of self-quarantine is quite expensive and does not have that much money because she has not worked for more than a month. Therefore, Zulianah, another migrant worker, is very grateful for the KJRI's assistance in the process of returning home.

"Thank God, the Consulate General can seek to release quarantine. In fact, we also facilitated transportation from Macau to Hong Kong, ”said Zulianah.

Despite being exempted from quarantine, all repatriated participants continue to follow the health protocol as stipulated by the Macau and Hong Kong authorities.

Regarding crew members, since July 29, 2020, the Hong Kong Government has also implemented entry and exit restrictions for ships and crew members in the Hong Kong area so that many crew members who are trapped cannot leave Hong Kong. With a good approach from the Indonesian Consulate General to the Hong Kong authorities, the crew were finally allowed to leave Hong Kong to return to Indonesia.

"Thank you to the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong for helping me and the rest of the ship's crew. We have been stuck in Hong Kong port since late July. Finally we can return to our homeland, ”said Captain Abdul Manap, one of the Indonesian crew members who was also assisted in his return.

The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong emphasized that he would continue to monitor and handle Indonesian citizens in Hong Kong and Macau to ensure the safety and security of Indonesian citizens during this pandemic. [DDHK NEWS]
