Malawian Muslims Expand Islamic Information Bureau

DDHK News, Malawi - In order to expand the spread of knowledge about Islam, the Muslim community in Malawi through the Islamic Information Bureau (IIB) is expanding its operations to neighboring countries in southern Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

"The growth of Islam in Zimbabwe and Zambia is not as good as in Malawi," said Sheikh Dinala Chabulika, IIB National Coordinator.

"That's why we opened a branch there so we can educate converts and spread Islam there," he said.

Through these branch offices, Muslims in these countries can access knowledge about Islam.

"Knowledge is very important in preaching Islam. People must fully understand what Islam is, before deciding to embrace it. "

Zambia and Zimbabwe are Christian countries. Only 2% of its 15 million population are Muslim. In Zimbabwe it is even smaller, namely 1% of the 13 million population.

Unlike in Zambia and Zimbabwe, Islam in Malawi has grown rapidly in recent years. The number of Muslims there makes up 36% of the 16 million population.

"We are determined to spread Islam to all corners of Africa," said Chabulika. (mel /onislam.net/localhost/project/personal/ddhongkong.org/ddhongkong.org).*
