Hariman: We have to keep fighting

The student activist of the 1970s, Hariman Siregar, invited him to maintain the democratization process because the post-reform administration did not automatically implement democracy which resulted in increased people's welfare.

This statement was a welcome from a famous student figure through the Malari student demonstration on January 15, 1974 at the 11th anniversary of the Indonesia Democracy Monitor (Indemo) as well as the launch of the book Hariman & Malari, Student Action Wave Against Foreign Capital at Graha Bakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, Saturday (15/1/11) night.

"Our current situation is too much, how can Gayus say that he is an expert staff of the National Police Chief. However, there are still people like us, who still dare to fight back. We shouldn't be silent, ”said Hariman.

In front of the guests attending the Graha Bakti Budaya, Hariman said he was ashamed to make a book about himself. However, his friends convinced Hariman's strengths, namely a story about the journey to protect democracy in Indonesia from an authoritarian leader. "I think that's right. What is clear is that the story in this book is not a fake story, ”he said.

According to him, these books and events are not nostalgic, but rather continue the past struggles that have not been completed, be critical of the government to maintain the democratic process. The consequence of democratization is that the critical role of students is taken over by political parties which, according to Hariman, have hijacked democracy. What is needed is that people actively participate in controlling the course of democracy so that Indonesia's natural resources are true for the welfare of all people.

Guests who attended included Lili Wachid, Chris Siner, Daud Signal, Cosmas Batubara, Sukardi Rinakit, Wiranto, Yudi Latif, Anwar Nasution, Christine Hakim, Adnan Buyung Nasution, Rachman Toleng, Rizal Ramli, and Rosihan Anwar. (COMPASS)
