The Blitar Earthquake Damaged Hundreds of Houses

DDHK.ORG - An earthquake with a magnitude of 5,9, centered in the Blitar area, East Java, and occurred on Friday (21/5) at around 19.00 WIB, damaged hundreds of residents' houses. Not only that, a number of public facilities have also suffered the same fate.

Damage to buildings, said Plt. Chief Executive of the East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Yanuar Rachmadi, occurred in 7 regions.

"Data as of Saturday, the impact of the earthquake, has damaged houses or facilities in 7 areas," said Yanuar, Saturday (22/5/2021).

Blitar Regency is the area most affected. There, at least 101 houses and 10 public facilities were damaged. "So far, no dead victims have been found. However, there was one resident who was seriously injured, "he said.

In Malang Regency, it was recorded that 27 housing units and 5 public facilities were damaged. In Lumajang, 19 housing units were damaged. In Malang City, 1 house unit was damaged. Then in Pasuruan Regency, 1 house unit and one public facility were damaged.

“In Blitar City, 3 houses were damaged. Meanwhile, in Jember, 1 public facility was damaged, "said Yanuar.

Previously, Head of the Earthquake and Tsunami Mitigation Division of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Daryono revealed that the earthquake that occurred on Friday was a destructive earthquake.

Felt in 31 districts / cities in East Java

The East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) noted that the earthquake, which was centered at 57 kilometers southeast of Blitar Regency, was also felt by residents in a number of districts / cities in East Java. Head of the East Java BPBD Emergency Section, Satriyo Nurseno, revealed that earthquake vibrations of different levels were felt in at least 31 districts / cities in East Java.

"Most of it was felt by 31 regencies / cities," said Satriyo when confirmed.

Dozens of areas include Blitar Regency and City, Malang Regency, Nganjuk, Lumajang, Tulungagung, Pasuruan Regency, Ponorogo Regency, Trenggalek, Pacitan, Ngawi, Malang City, Batu City, Jember and Situbondo.

Then Pasuruan City, Sidoarjo, Surabaya, Madiun Regency, Mojokerto Regency, Probolinggo, Bondowoso, Lamongan, Madiun Regency, Madiun City, Ponorogo, Bojonegoro, Magetan, Kediri Regency and City to Banyuwangi.
