9 Days After Second Vaccine Injection, Indonesian Domestic Worker Dies in Hong Kong

DDHK.ORG - An Indonesian migrant worker who worked as a domestic worker in Hong Kong died on Friday (21/5/2021) morning after receiving 2 doses of vaccine 9 days ago. The 44-year-old woman who received a second injection of BioNTech vaccines on May 12, 2021 then fainted at her employer's house in a flat in Cascades Block 2, 93 Chung Hau Street, No. 12 Hill, Ho Man Tin.

It is not yet known the exact cause of death. The Standard, one of the Hong Kong-based media, which reported on this case wrote the headline "Indonesian domestic helper collapsed in Ho Man Tin's flat, died after the second BioNTech injection". Meanwhile, another media, Dimsum Daily Hong Kong, wrote the title, "The 44 year old Indonesian domestic worker who received the second dose of Comirnaty vaccine 9 days ago died today".

The PMI was found unconscious by her employer at around 09.00 am. He was then rushed to Kwong Wah Hospital and pronounced dead after resuscitation or a first aid attempt.

"The 44-year-old (woman) has no medical history, according to reports," wrote The Standard.

He reportedly received a second dose of BioNTech injection nine days ago and experienced slight discomfort on Thursday (20/5/2021).

Authorities, wrote Dimsum Daily Hong Kong, have not responded to the incident and explained the cause of death.

The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong Coordinates with Hong Kong Authorities, Asking PMI to Calm Down

News of PMI's death in Ho Man Tin immediately spread among Indonesian migrant workers in the Land of Beton. Many of them speculated that the vaccine injection was the cause of his death.

In fact, a photo of the victim was circulated with information on their origin, namely Blitar, East Java. However, the information circulating and the developing speculation cannot be confirmed.

Regarding this, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) Hong Kong delivered a 3-point statement through its official Facebook page. First, the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong has conducted intensive coordination with the Hong Kong Labor Department and the Hong Kong Center for Health Protection.

Second, a thorough examination is being carried out by the Hong Kong Government Authorities to ascertain the cause of the PMI's death.
