Beware, Fraud Via WhatsApp Drain Account

Lately there have been rampant scams that have drained the accounts of their victims. One of the things that has recently made a scene is by sending invitations on WhatsApp. Scammers will give you a file to download which turns out to be an (.apk) file.

CNBC Indonesia reported that the Director General of Aptika of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, explained the mode of fraudsters in carrying out their actions. They will create accounts, which according to the results of the investigation, these accounts were made by other people. After the account is created, the person will be given money and the account will be in the hands of the fraudster.

"Met in the field, they used other people to register, after that they gave them their wages and took their bank account," explained Semuel.

He explained, one of the characteristics of fraud is the existence of unreasonable or bombastic offers. For example, offering cellphone prices that are much cheaper than market prices. “Don't be fooled by unreasonable offers, the price of a cell phone was IDR 10 million, I could get IDR 2 million. It's definitely a scam," Semuel said at the Check Account First Transaction Later event.

The second feature is the presence of unclear messages from people you don't know. This can be a telephone, WhatsApp, or SMS. "For example, invitations, those who send invitations are unknown, those who are married do not know. People are curious about just playing with the clicks," he said.

The last way is by social engineering. Fraudsters will use the weaknesses of their victims to be able to commit crimes. "Using social engineering, our weaknesses," said Semuel.
