Australian Muslims protest the dismissal of hijab student

AussieMuslim-Students-Dismissed-for-HijabDDHK News, Australia - Australian Muslims have suspected the attitude of a campus in Queensland that fired two of its students wearing headscarves. The Islamic Kalamngan stated that the dismissal was a discriminatory decision.

"This is not good news, it is an issue that concerns me," the head of the Islamic College of Brisbane, Mubarak Noor, told Courier Mail, Sunday (25/5).

The controversy started when Redlands College fired two Muslim women for wearing the headscarf. The two students were assigned to work placements at the Christian campus this year.

The head of Redlands College, Mark Bensley, transferred the two to other campuses. The reason was that the two students did not adhere to Christian principles by wearing a headscarf.

"I am tasked with ensuring that they actively support the Christian principles, practices and beliefs of the College," he wrote in an newsletter which lists the reasons for refusing Muslim female students.

"I respect them keeping the headscarf on, but I don't think it's appropriate at Redlands College," added Bensley.

Christians also regretted the dismissal. Reverend's Uniting Church Minister, Anneli Sinnko, considered Bensley's actions "directly contrary to the basic foundations of the Christian faith".

Muslims, who have been in Australia for more than 200 years, make up 1,7 percent of the total population of 20-million. (mel / onislam.net / localhost / project / personal / ddhongkong.org / ddhongkong.org). *
