Bismillah… Islam is very concerned about the honor of its people, both men and women. One of them is by prohibiting men and women who are not mahram from doing activities that can cause slander, so that adultery occurs, even though it is on a small scale, such as adultery of the eyes, ears, hands, feet, etc. the biggest.
Among the things that can lead to this is dating. Then what is the law on long-distance courtship that rarely or even never meets, then proceeds to marry?
If during the long-distance relationship process there is still a good relationship in the form of a cellphone or other and there is an element of long-distance dating activity in general, then this is also prohibited. Because it includes khalwat (seclusion with people who are not mahram).
The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said:
لا لون امرأة الشيطان الثهما
"None of you should seclude himself with a woman, for verily the devil is the third person between them." (Narrated by Ahmad, Ibn Hibban, At-Thabrani, and Al-Baihaqi)
ان الله اليوم الآخر لا لون امرأة ليس ا ا الثهما الشيطان
"Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him not seclude himself with a woman without her mahrom, because Satan is the third person between them." (HR Ahmad)
However, if someone only knows him as a friend and there is no courtship element, then they are separated for a long time, then meet and then get married, then that is not a forbidden courtship.
