chaplain please enlighten. If the wife is the backbone of the family, and to support their children, will a husband be rewarded later in the afterlife?

Supporting a family which includes a wife and children is the duty of a husband. Allah Subhanahu wata'ala says:
Almighty Allah ِهِمْ فَالصَّالِحَاتُ قَانِتَاتٌ حَافِظَاتٌ لِلْغَيْبِ بِمَا حَفِظَ اللَّهُ … {سورة النساء:٣٤}
"Men are leaders for women, because Allah has exaggerated some of them (men) over others (women), and because they (men) are obliged to spend some of their wealth..." (QS. An-Nisaa': 34}
If a husband ignores maintenance, then he is sinful because of it. From Abdullah bin Amru bin 'Ash radliyallahu 'anhuma, the Prophet shallallãhu 'alaihi wasallam said:
كفى بالمرء إثمًا أن يضيّع من يَقُوت (أخرجه أبو داود)
"It is enough for someone to sin if he wastes someone he is obliged to provide for." (Narrated by Abu Dawud)
Even Allah Subhanahu wata'ala threatens men who do not want to provide for their children through the hadith of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam:
Amen
"It is not a servant who is charged with responsibility by Allah and then he is ignorant, except that he certainly does not smell the fragrance of heaven." (HR Bukhari)
Na'udzu biLlãhi min dzãlik
However, if the husband still works and provides for his family according to his ability, then he is free from the above threats even if the wife works and earns more than her husband. This is as long as the wife's work is lawful and her husband approves.
