The Nature of the Prophet's Prayer: Sunnah Haiat when Prostrating and Sitting between 2 Prostrations (23)

DDHK.ORG - The practice of praying from the time of our ancestors to the present day generally uses the standard of prayer described by the Shafi'i school of thought. This is because the majority of the Indonesian population is generally the Shafi'i school of thought. The scholars who spread Islam in the archipelago, of course, were also scholars of the Shafi'i school of thought. So automatically the practice of prayer is based on the fiqh of the Shafi'i school of thought.

Through this series of articles, DDHK News describes the nature of the prayer of the Prophet Muhammad based on the Shafi'i school, as written by Muhammad Ajib, Lc., MA. in his book "Sahih Evidence of the Prophet's Prayer Ala Madzhab Syafi'iy".

Put your knees first then your hands when you want to prostrate

When he is about to prostrate, it is Sunnah to land on his knees first, then his hands.

From a friend of Wail bin Hujr Radhiyallahu anhu said: I saw the Prophet when he was about to prostrate and put his knees before his hands. (Hadith narrated by Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi & Nasai with Sanad Hasan)

Reading tasbih when prostrating

Imam Nawawi said that it is sunnah to read tasbih when prostrating. It can be read 1 time, 3 times, 5 times, 7 times, 9 times or 11 times. But for the priest it is not necessary more than 3 times.

There are 3 hadiths regarding the recitation of prostration, including:

First proposition: From a friend of Aisyah Radhiyallahu anha said: The Prophet when praying in bowing and prostration read: Subhanakallahumma Robbana Wabihamdika Allahummghfirli. (Hadith of Bukhari & Muslim)

Second argument: From a friend of Aisyah Radhiyallahu anha said: The Prophet when praying in bowing and prostration read: Subbuhun Quddusun Rabbul Angeli Warruh. (Hadith narrated by Bukhari & Muslim)

Third proposition: From a friend of Uqbah Bin Amir Radhiyallahu anha said: The Prophet when praying in bowing read: Subhana Robbiyal adzimi wabihamdih 3 times. And when prostrating: Subhana Robbiyal A'la wabihamdih 3 times. (Hadith narrated by Abu Dawud)

Reading the prayer sitting between 2 prostrations

It is sunnah to read the prayer while sitting between the two prostrations mentioned in several hadith narrations, for example:

First proposition: From a friend of Ibn Abbas Radhiyallahu anhu said: The Prophet while sitting between two prostrations read: Allahummaghfirli wa'jurni wa 'aafini warzuqni wahdini. (Hadith narrated by Bukhari & Muslim)

Second argument: As for the hadith of Abu Dawud the Prophet when sitting between two prostrations read: Allahummaghfirli warhamni wa aafini wahdini warzuqni. As for the Tirmidhi hadith, it is the same but there is an addition: wa'jurni wa afini. As for the hadith of Ibn Majah it is the same but there is an addition: Warfa'ni as a substitute for Wahdini. As for the hadith al Baihaqi: rabbighfirli warhamni wa'jurni warfa'ni wahdini. So you should combine some of the history above.
