How is the Law of Giving Zakat to People Who Never Pray?

Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings. Sir, I want to give zakta and alms to someone. However that person
never pray and do other worship. How is the law? Please explain, thank you

ANSWER: May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be with you too. May Allah SWT always pour out His blessings on you and your family.

Most of the scholars argue that zakat should only be given to Muslims and should not be given to non-Muslims.

Regarding your question, is a person who does not pray completely throughout his life is an infidel? Then, does that person really leave prayers at all? Is there any doubtful element regarding the information that the person has never prayed?

FirstThe scholars differed about the law of a person who never prays at all but claims to be Muslim and performs other forms of worship. Imam Shafi'i argues that he is Muslim but fasiq because he leaves prayer. Meanwhile, Imam Ahmad believes that this person is an infidel. However, the two scholars agreed that if a person denies the obligation to pray, then the law is kafir.

Secondly,, what is the fact that the person who is said to have left the prayer is really leaving the prayer. Is there still room for doubt? If there is an element that is still in doubt, then he cannot be punished as a person who abandons prayer in its entirety. Because, the law is different.

Third, something that is convincing cannot be replaced with something that there is still room for doubt. As long as a person recognizes that he is a Muslim he must be punished as a Muslim until there is convincing evidence that he is leaving Islam.

The conclusion: as long as a person is still a Muslim, he is punished as a Muslim until there is evidence that he left Islam. As long as someone is a Muslim and is included in the 8 groups of people who are entitled to receive zakat, he can receive zakat.

As for alms, you can give it to anyone, whether praying or not praying, to Muslims or non-Muslims. It's just that, giving alms to good people, from one side is better.
Allah knows best. (Ust. Abdul Rochim, Lc, MA. Zakat.or.id). *
