Public Service Normalization Target on April 21, 79 Bus Routes Back in Operation

DDHK.ORG - Hong Kong's Department of Transport on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, announced that it had asked bus companies to operate services for 79 of the 140 routes that had previously experienced a temporary suspension of service. This is based on the Government's policy of gradually reopening public services, starting April 1. The target is that most public services will return to normal starting April 21.

"(The Department of Transport) made the request to resume services after considering factors such as the situation of the bus captain's recent absence, the rate of decline in patronage, the number of passengers, the availability of alternative public transport services, and the efficient distribution of resources," the Hong Kong Department of Transport official said. as reported by the government's official website.

For daytime routes that are approved for frequency adjustment, the headway in general during peak hour periods will be extended by no more than 10 minutes, and the headway extension will not exceed 30 minutes.

To align with the social distancing measures implemented and to address the decline in patronage, the Ministry of Transport has approved Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB), New World First Bus, Citybus, Long Win Bus and New Lantao Bus to implement a temporary suspension of service on 61 routes out of 31. March to April 10. These routes mainly include ancillary services during peak hours, recreational routes operated during weekends, and evening services.
