Starting September 30 Vaccine Pass Tightened, Must 3 Doses

DDHK.ORG - On Thursday (8/9/2022) the Hong Kong Government announced that children aged 5-11 years will be subject to a vaccine pass requirement to enter various places in the Land of Concrete, including restaurants. This policy will take effect from September 30, 2022.

Deputy Minister of Health, Libby Lee, said that to qualify for the vaccine pass, children aged between 5-11 years must have received their first dose of Covid injection in the previous 3 months. Or, 2 doses if more than 3 months have passed since their first injection.

“To normalize their daily life, maximize their opportunities to get out of the house, increase their social activities and at the same time protect their health, the solution is to get them vaccinated,” said Mr Lee.

Eligibility requirements for people aged 12 and over will also be tightened from September 30. Those who received the second dose more than 5 months earlier will need a third shot to keep their vaccine clearance valid. Currently, people are given 6 months to get a third dose.

Starting November 30, everyone 12 years of age and older should get 3 injections. While children aged 5-11 years must receive 2 injections if they want to continue to use the vaccine license.

In addition to restaurants, the vaccine pass is required to enter shopping centers, department stores, markets, supermarkets, sports venues, swimming pools, places of worship, fitness centers, various types of salons, and various entertainment venues.

Lee said the government would study whether the LeaveHomeSafe app could be updated so parents could keep their children's vaccination records there, in addition to their own. Children will also be allowed to use paper records to show venue staff their vaccination status. [Source: RTHK] [DDHKNews]
