Raided by the authorities during parttime work

STORY FROM PRISON

LO WU | HONG KONG - On Sunday (22/9/2019), I was from the volunteer team Dompet Dhuafa Hong Kong together with 6 fellow Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) Hong Kong visited Lo Wu Correctional Institution or Lo Wu Prison. They are Sri Wahyuni, Yohanna Herminah, Endang Sumartini, Sutarni, Wiji Lestari, and Reni Suherti.

Ukhti Sri Wahyuni visited 3 people at Lo Wu. One of them is M, an Indonesian citizen who was imprisoned for working parttime. In fact, his status was in the process of obtaining a recognized paper, or often referred to as a paper citizen in Hong Kong. As is known, someone with an overstay or paper status is prohibited from working in Hong Kong.

“He was caught in a raid on a parttime workplace. At that time he was not an official paperan, still in process, "said Ukhti Sri, telling M.'s story.

Until now, M admitted that he did not know exactly what the case was, because no one had helped or provided information. According to him, M deliberately applied for paperan status when he was first summoned to the Immigration office in Kowloon Bay. On the second call, M was asked to pay HK $ 2,000 but he did not comply. M was then taken to the Lo Wu prison.

"But he said that on October 11th he would be transferred to Tai Lam prison," said Ukhti Sri. [Siti Ngatipah]
