Don't just ban and allow children to play

DDHK. ORG – Children should not be arbitrarily prohibited and allowed to play. This was requested by the Central Executive Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) Dr. Piprim Basarah Yanuarso, SpA(K).

He reminded parents not to just forbid or allow it children playing but pay attention to a number of aspects such as security and education.

According to him, play is a child's natural world. However, he continued, unfortunately in modern times, playing has shifted to online activities as online games have appeared.

“Many are also trapped with gadgets, addicted to gadgets, addicted to online games. There are even children who spend the whole night at the internet cafe, not coming home. I think this is unhealthy and needs education from experts, what are children's games that cause stimulation, "he said as reported Republika, Sunday (15/1/2023).

Piprim reminded that the basic needs of children are Fostering, Asih and Asah. Playing is one of the components in foster care that helps stimulate both cognitive and psychomotor children. Asih components or emotional needs are also possible in play.

On that occasion, the Head of Division 3 of the Central Management Idai DR D. Bernie Endyarni Medise, Sp.A(K), MPH stressed the importance of assisting parents, especially in choosing the right toys and games for children.
According to him, the selection can be adjusted to aspects of child development and safety for children.

"For ages three and under there are rules, one of which is that the size cannot be too small, because children under three years of age still like to put anything in their mouths, afraid they will choke," said Bernie.

Meanwhile, for children aged three to six years who are generally interested in exploring, parents can choose toys that can stimulate children's interest in adventure, thereby making them more confident in exploring their environment.

"Older children, preschoolers, (can choose games that) help them develop their sense of cooperation and socialization," said Bernie.

Meanwhile, for school-age children with more advanced abilities, games or toys can be found that stimulate dexterity, creativity, motor development, solving higher problems so that the game can be more complex.

Playing, continued Bernie, has many benefits for children, including helping in the ability to think, emotionally, physically, creativity, imagination, communication, interaction, social emotions, the ability to solve problems to learn to wait their turn.

“Playing is a fun activity. Playing should be fun," he concluded. [DDHK News]
