Day for Work, Night for Rest

malamAllah SWT created day and night for the benefit of mankind. Day to earn a living or work, at night to rest, because our bodies have the right to rest. That's sunnatullah. "Surely your body has a right over you. Your two eyes have a right over you, "said the Prophet (s) (HR. Bukhari and Muslim).

Then, worship? For Muslims, all activities are worship. Hayatuna kulluha 'worship. During the activity, it is aimed to seek His pleasure, carry out His commands, and stay away from His prohibitions.

"And We make it a day to make a living" (Surah An-Naba ': 11).

"And because of His mercy, He made for you night and day, that you may rest that night and that you may seek a part of His grace (during the day) and that you may give thanks to Him." (Surah Al-Qashash: 73).

"And it is He who lulls you at night and He knows what you are doing during the day, then He will wake you up during the day to complete (your) age which has been determined ..." (Surah Al-An'aam: 60).

"It is Allah Who made the night for you so that you may rest on it; and make the day brightly bright ... " (Surah Al Mu'minun: 61)

“And among the signs of His power are your sleep at night and by day and your search for some of His gifts. Verily in this there truly are signs for the hearing people. " (QS. Ar-Ruum: 23)

"Do they not notice that We have made it night so that they may rest in it and day to light? Indeed, in this there are signs (of God's power) for those who believe. " (QS. An-Naml: 86).

“He is the one who made the night for you so that you may rest on it and (made) the day bright (so that you may seek God's grace). Indeed, in this there are signs (of Allah's power) for those who hear. " (QS. Yunus: 67).

Night work
Then, how do you have to work at night and rest during the day? Observing the above verses, it is clear that night work violates sunnatullah or natural law (natural law). However, if it is such a compelling situation (emergency), of course Islam will tolerate it.

However, there is a risk as a consequence of "violation" of these natural laws. For example, a scientific research in Norway revealed that routine night work among career women can increase the risk of developing cancer, particularly breast cancer.

Nearly 15% of women who develop breast cancer have worked night hours or alternating periods of day and night.

Mentioned, women who work at night all the time always interact with light which causes reduced body resistance to produce the hormone milanonein which is formed at night while sleeping. This hormone functions to protect the body's cells and pores against cancer and the negative effects of these rays. (Hoorea.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has already included night work on its list of jobs at risk of cancer. The results of research by Japanese scientists from the University of Occupational and Environmental Health revealed that employees who work flexible hours have more prostate cancer than those who work standard hours.

Likewise, a Danish expert from the Institute of Cancer Epidemiology, after examining 7.000 women aged 30 to 54 years, found that women who worked for at least six months at night, had a higher chance of developing breast tumors.

Those who frequently work late at night also have a higher risk of developing heart disease. Scientists from the University of Milan examined 22 male metalists who worked different hours each week.

Research head Rafaello Furlan believes the human body cannot adapt to nighttime activities, which afterwards can result in heart disease. However, scientists do not know for sure the mechanism of this disease will emerge in time.

The negative impacts of night work on human health include disrupting daily biorhythms and being susceptible to various diseases. If you do not sleep at night, the system will experience irregularities, as well as nausea, stomach disorders, stomach aches, diarrhea, and loss of appetite.

Night work also "confuses" the body's biological working clock, to synchronize food consumption and digestion. (hidayatullah.com)

Working at night interferes with sleep quality, as well as reducing social activity. To reduce the negative effects, experts recommend that you stick to a (consistent) schedule, get enough rest and even take more naps during the day, work in bright light, and don't go to sleep right after work, but do some home activities until your body is ready to start sleeping. Allah knows best. (mel / various sources / ddhongkong.org). *
