Condemning Israeli Aggression, Indonesia-Malaysia-Brunei Affirms Support for an Independent Palestinian State

DDHK.ORG - Three Muslim majority countries in Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam condemn the violence perpetrated by Israel against Palestinians. This was conveyed in a joint statement between the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo; Prime Minister of Malaysia, Muhyiddin Yassin; and the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzadin, on Sunday (16/5/2021).

"We repeat our solidarity with the Palestinian people and our full support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State," Jokowi wrote on his Twitter account.

The three leaders strongly condemned Israel's repeated acts of abuse and blatant aggression targeting civilians across the occupied Palestinian territories, the statement said. The violence, the joint statement continued, caused suffering to many people, including women and children.

The three leaders of the country are also concerned about Israel's expansion of illegal settlements; throughout the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. "We also unconditionally condemn violations of international law, including humanitarian law and human rights, committed by Israel, through its inhuman, colonial and apartheid policies against Palestinians in the Occupied Palestinian Territories," the statement continued.

Therefore, they urge for collective action that is responsible for ensuring the necessary accountability for Israeli violations as soon as possible. The joint statement also warned that all parties should exercise restraint, stop attacks on civilians in order to take steps to defuse the situation for the sake of upholding international law and order.

"We urge both sides to accept a temporary international presence in the City of Al-Quds, to monitor the cessation of hostilities in the Occupied Palestinian Territories."

As the international community, the three of them urge the United Nations (UN) to act immediately and take action to ensure the safety of Palestinians.

"We ask the UN General Assembly to hold an emergency session to discuss the developments taking place and produce a United for Peace Resolution with the aim of ending the atrocities committed against the Palestinian people."

They also called on the citizens of the world to remain steadfast in their commitment to safeguarding the "two-state solution" to achieve the ideal of an independent Palestinian State, based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital. "We reaffirm our solidarity and commitment to the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State," he said.

They stated that they were ready to support international efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East based on UN Resolutions relevant to international law, including humanitarian law. [Source: CNN Indonesia] [DDHKNews]
